Robbie Lawler stops losing skid with exciting Strikeforce TKO

Robbie Lawler's didn't win in 2011, but started 2012 with a thrilling victory over Adlan Amagov. At Strikeforce in Las Vegas on Saturday night, Lawler won with a quick TKO.

Amagov started well with a takedown, controlling Lawler from the start. Unfortunately, he threw a knee to Lawler's head when Lawler was on the ground, and Amagov lost a point for the first round. When the fight re-started, Lawler threw a nasty flying knee. He landed the knee but still flew over Amagov's head. Lawler spun around to follow up with more strikes until the bout was stopped at 1:48 in the first round.

While Lawler only threw eight punches in the fight, it was all he needed to stop his losing streak. In 2011, Lawler lost to Tim Kennedy and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza. His record is now 19-8, while Amagov falls to 9-2-1.

Vitor Belfort overcomes Anthony Johnson?s size to get UFC 142 submission

Fighting in front of his hometown crowd, Vitor Belfort submitted Anthony Johnson in the first round at UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.

Johnson wanted to use his wrestling skills caught a kick for a takedown early in the first round. Belfort looked for submissions from his back, but couldn't find any, and they were stood up by referee Dan Miragliotta. Belfort landed a knee and stuffed Johnson's takedowns, while Johnson was still able to land several big strikes.

As the crowd chanted, "Ole Ole Ole! Vitor, Vitor!" Belfort took Johnson's back and cinched it with a body triangle. Belfort methodically worked his arms under Johnson's chin, and secured the rear naked choke for the submission at 4:49 in the first round.

The fight was in question after Johnson weighed in at 197 lbs. for the 185-lb. division. Johnson had to weigh in again at 2 p.m. on Saturday and weigh less than 205 lbs. for the fight to go on. Johnson fought for years at welterweight and had trouble with the weight cut then.

"I fought big guys. I'm not afraid of size. I'm ready to fight whatever, but I cut 20 lbs. in four days. I've got to be a professional. I cannot control the outcome, but I can control my attitude," Belfort said after the bout.

Belfort lost to Anderson Silva in a title bout last February, but has two first-round wins since then. Next, he is slated to coach the first Brazilian edition of "The Ultimate Fighter" against fellow Brazilian MMA legend Wanderlei Silva.

Johnson is in a precarious position. Not making weight will draw the ire of UFC president Dana White, and it does not help to lose a fight the next day.

How to?build a home gym

When I moved into my new home, I spent a little time on reconnaissance for somewhere to train for climbing. I initially thought a fingerboard would be the way to go. However, all the doorways were flimsy stud walls and not sturdy enough. An alternative jumped out - Rock Rings by Metolius. If only I could find [...]

UFC 142 vlog: Dana White tells Vitor Belfort about Anthony Johnson?s situation

Dana White's latest vlog does a nice a job of showing behind-the-scenes coverage of how the Anthony Johnson weigh-in miss went down.

Vitor Belfort arrives at the arena (2:45 mark) and is blown away by the fact that Johnson wasn't going to make weight. He explains that his cut was tough. As he thinks about what to do, Belfort begins to intensely chew on a towel full of ice to get a little water into his system.

White gives him the option of not making weight either, but then he wouldn't get 20 percent of Johnson's purse. His nutrition coach Mike Dolce is brought into help make a decision and says Vitor is going to be professional and do his part.

Later in the video, Johnson is informed on stage that he has to weigh in again on Saturday and be under 205 pounds. The exchange between White and the fighter is cordial.
