Mugger beaten up by self-identified ?ultimate fighter champion?

Mugger beaten up by self-identified ?ultimate fighter champion?A mugger in Chicago found out the hard way that he should do a better job picking his victims. He approached a man sitting in a parked car, but ended up with that a face covered in bruises and a bullet in his ankle.

With a gun pulled, Anthony Miranda demanded money from the unnamed victim. He handed it over, but Miranda ordered him out of the car. The victim wrestled with Miranda, causing Miranda to shoot his own ankle, and then pinned Miranda down until police arrived.

And here's why this is being written up in a mixed martial arts blog. From the Chicago Sun-Times:

The victim, who told police he's a martial arts expert and ultimate fighting champion was able to pin Miranda down until police arrived. Police arrived to find Miranda with a face full of cuts and two black eyes. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital for treatment, police said.

Judging by Miranda's face, the victim knew how to throw a punch or 20. It's understandable that the police didn't release the name of the victim. It's good practice to protect a victim's privacy.

No, the question is who describes himself as an "ultimate fighting champion," unless he is actually carrying around a belt? Though several UFC fighters call Chicago home, none are champions. What's more likely is that when describing his training, the victim had to invoke the name of the UFC, and this is what the police heard.

So if you are this man, give us a yell. Tell us your story. Also, kudos in not getting shot and staying alive.

Five bantamweights who should make the drop to flyweight

Five bantamweights who should make the drop to flyweightUFC president Dana White said this week that the promotion will soon have an announcement on adding a flyweight class. Bringing in 125-lb. fighters will not only add some fast-paced excitement to cards, but will also create a welcome home for fighters who were undersized at bantamweight's 135-lb. limit.

Five fighters who would welcome a 10-lb. drop:

Joe Benavidez: He is on a three-fight win streak, but he couldn't get past bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz on his first title try. At 5-foot-4, Benavidez could come up with another title run at flyweight and avoid the possible problem of having to challenge his mentor, contender and former champ Urijah Faber.

Chris Cariaso: At bantamweight, the 5-foot-3 Cariaso is 2-1 in his last three fights, all decisions. Smaller opponents could give him the chance to break out.

John Dodson: The newest Ultimate Fighter is pint-sized, personable and exciting in the cage. In other words, he's the exact kind of fighter to become the face of a new division.

Louis Gaudinot: At "The Ultimate Fighter" 14 finale, Gaudinot could not get out from underneath Johnny Bedford. The size that kept him from winning will be an asset at a smaller weight class.

Demetrious Johnson: "Mighty Mouse" made an impressive run for the bantamweight belt, but lost to Cruz. He has another shot to impress as a bantam when fighting Eddie Wineland at UFC on Fox 2, but don't be surprised to see Johnson and his 5-foot-3 frame drop to flyweight.

Video: The most adorable ?fight? you have ever seen

We take this break from discussion of Jon Jones' choking out Lyoto Machida, and Frank Mir snapping Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira's arm to watch some adorableness that will make you giggle. It's two toddlers trying out taekwondo in this video that just went viral.

OK, so it's not so much a fight as two tiny people dancing around each other who come nowhere near landing anything. They do have some impressive movement, though.

Thanks to With Leather.

Dana White responds to Twitter troll with prison rape joke

Remember how just last week, UFC president Dana White cut Miguel Torres for making a rape joke? And reprimanded Rashad Evans for using the Penn St. child abuse case in trash talk? White said at the time that Torres' remark about a rape van is not funny and disturbing.

Yesterday, White responded to a follower who was clearly trying to bait him by making a prison rape joke. (Click the link above for the uncensored tweet.)

Dana White responds to Twitter troll with prison rape joke

"Dicker410" is inexcusable. He said that White's death would be great, which is a hair shy of a death threat. But in responding to this troll with a joke about prison rape, White lowered himself to Dicker410's level.

Anyone with a profile in MMA has been baited by someone hoping for an explosive response. I'm a lowly writer in the sport, and it happens to me daily. You have to learn not to take the bait and give the troll the response that he or she wants. You definitely have to learn not to respond with jokes about rape.

When asked about a code of conduct for his fighters, White said that sometimes he needs a code of conduct for his actions on Twitter. It's simple, Dana. Don't respond to trolls, and hold yourself to the same standards as your athletes.
