Another torn ACL victim, Joe Lauzon talks about the future for GSP

Another torn ACL victim, Joe Lauzon talks about the future for GSPGeorges St-Pierre is on the shelf for a while with a torn ACL. His boss Dana White said it'll be at least 10 months before we see the UFC welterweight champ back in the Octagon. That's a long time, and yet with an injury of this nature, it sounds a bit optimistic.

We tracked down Joe Lauzon, who also suffered a torn ACL, to ask him about the timetable for a GSP return and coming back at 100 percent both physically and mentally.

"I definitely think I rushed it. Looking back on it," Lauzon told ESPN1100/98.9 FM in Las Vegas. "I was so happy. I felt like I was in good shape. I wish I had waited a little bit longer. I wish I had given it another 2-3 months."

Lauzon tore his ACL in Feb. of 2009 and was back in the cage at UFC 108 on Dec. 2, 2010.

"I definitely did feel sluggish. I didn't have a spring in my step. I couldn't really push off the way I wanted to. We tried to do a three month camp in like three weeks," said Lauzon.

He lost a slugfest against Sam Stout because he couldn't consistently get the Canadian into his realm on the ground. For that reason, Stout thinks St-Pierre should, and will take his time before returning.

"He's gonna wanna be 100 percent. He's not going to rush it. I'm sure he's going to want to get in there as soon as he can, but I'm sure his coaches, his cornermen and everyone else will make him take his time," said Lauzon.

There's also a lot more on the line for GSP vs. Lauzon. The champ comes back prematurely and isn't ready to go, that could alter his entire career.

As far as rumors that St-Pierre is frustrated to the point where he may be done with fighting, Lauzon says no way.

"We're used to waking up in pain, hobbling around, getting kicked in the legs, rolling an ankle ... you know, pulling a hamstring. Whatever it's going to be, we're pretty used to it. I'm sure this isn't going to deter him at all," said Lauzon.

It took a little while, but the explosion is back for Lauzon. Following the loss to Stout, he's won 3-of-4. His last two victories came in the first round in a combined 2:45.

Vitor Belfort vs. Wanderlei Silva as Ultimate Fighter Brazil Coaches

Filed under:

The UFC is ready for the first international season of its longstanding reality show The Ultimate Fighter, and on Tuesday UFC President Dana White announced that Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva will be the coaches of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil, which will make its debut this spring.

"This show in the United States is huge -- it's one of the longest-running reality shows," White said at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro. "It's incredibly popular, it's been huge for us there. We think it's going to be 1,000 times bigger in Brazil. The amount of talent that's in this country right now? There's an undiscovered Anderson Silva, Jose Aldo, Vitor Belfort or Wanderlei Silva."

Belfort and Silva are both very popular fighters among Brazilian MMA fans (and Belfort is also known even among non-MMA fans because his wife, Joana Prado, is an actress and model), and the fight between the two coaches after the season will be a very big deal in Brazil. But that fight will be a long way off: Belfort first has to fight Anthony Johnson at UFC 142 in January, and the Belfort-Silva fight won't take place until after the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil, likely early in the summer.

The UFC has a deal lined up for Brazilian television, although it is not yet known how American fans can watch the show. The Ultimate Fighter Brazil Finale will air live in both Brazil and the United States.

Belfort vs. Silva will be a rematch 14 years in the making for the two fighters -- the two of them met in the first UFC Brazil show in 1998. That night, Belfort exploded across the Octagon and drilled Silva with hard punches, needing just 44 seconds to win by TKO. But both Belfort and Silva said they don't think that fight is particularly relevant today.

"It's a great honor to fight against Wanderlei," Belfort said. "I see it as a new fight and not a rematch."

"I think the first fight was very quick, I couldn't perform as well as I wanted to," Silva said. "I think this is one of the biggest rematches in all of modern MMA and I'm very pleased to give this to my fans and to once again fight in Brazil. This is a dream."

Tryouts for The Ultimate Fighter Brazil are taking place this week, and the UFC is expected to announce the cast members in early 2012.

Dana White?s video blog shows behind-the-scenes at UFC 139

Dana White's first video blog from UFC 140 fight week looks back at UFC 139, which White calls one of the best cards ever. As always, the video blogs that give behind-the-scenes looks at fight cards are about seeing the smaller, nuanced moments that fight fans don't normally get to see when watching a card.

Some moments that stuck out from this one include seeing Tom Lawlor with his "Let's Get Physical" outfit for his walkout while getting pumped up by his cornermen,  watching Jon Fitch comfort his teammate Kyle Kinbgsbury after a loss and Cung Le wanting the doctor to straighten his nose on-site instead of at the hospital.

After Dan Henderson's amazing fight with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, we get to see White congratulate both men, who are barely being able to speak through their exhaustion. It ends with Wanderlei Silva apologizing to UFC chairman Lorenzo Fertitta for his last loss, even after Silva had just TKOed Le.

Jason Miller gasses early, Michael Bisping abuses the TV star to win main event at ?TUF 14 Finale?

LAS VEGAS - Just based on fighting skills, Michael Bisping is not an easy guy to fight. When you roll in the emotion the Brit seems to draw out of all his opponents, the adrenaline rush has to be managed or else you're in for a long night.

Jason Miller couldn't do so and got walloped in a one-sided fight in the main event of the Season 14 "Ultimate Fighter Finale." Standing, and on the ground, Bisping landed dozens of shots to the body and head of Miller on his way to a finish at the 3:34 mark of the third round.

UFC president Dana White told the cageside media it was one of the most one-sided fights he's ever seen.

"He's a tough guy," Bisping told UFC analyst Joe Rogan. "I knew if I was going to finish him, I had to have a high work rate."

According to FightMetric, Bisping outlanded Miller 150-38. Miller got blasted in the head 125 times.

Jason Miller gasses early, Michael Bisping abuses the TV star to win main event at ?TUF 14 Finale? The 'TUF 14' coaches nearly came to blows several times during the season. Miller got on Bisping's nerves and vice versa. The Brit even snapped during the weigh-in on Friday when he cursed at a booing crowd. Miller has the ability to get under anyone's skin, but he just didn't have the fighting skills in his tool box to compete with Bisping once he exhausted himself with an all-out first round.

Miller (24-9-1, 0-2 UFC) got the fight to the mat in that opening round and did a little damage, but when he couldn't get it down in the next two rounds (0-for-9 on takedown attempts), he took a beating on the feet and was outstruck 123-10.

Bisping's technical boxing is very good. He worked well behind his jab (landed 76-of-112 jabs) and when Miller tried his wild haymakers, the Brit countered with the right. By the end of the fight, Miller had an ugly mouse under his left eye.

The final round was borderline embarrassing for Miller, who's carved out quite a niche in the satellite radio world and on television as the host of MTV's "Bully Beatdown."

In the opening seconds of the round, Miller immediately retreated to the cage where Bisping unloaded 6-8 shots at a time. Miller failed on one last sloppy single-leg takedown and just stayed on the ground.

Bisping (22-3, 12-3 UFC) went into overdrive and pummeled Miller with knees and punches to the side before the American settled on his back. He took more abuse there and then flipped to his knees. Bisping pounded away and the referee had to stop it.

"Yeah, I would say this is one of the most rewarding wins of my career," Bisping said. "I think Jason and I did a great job on 'The Ultimate Fighter.'  It was entertaining, we had a great season, we had great fighting talent on the show. I'm very proud of the show that was put out. There are good guys and bad guys, and people try to peg me as the bad guy. I really don't know what I do to deserve that, but who cares. This was a satisfying victory."

Bisping would like a title shot against UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva, but admitted with a first round like he turned in tonight he'd have a tough time defeating the pound-for-pound king.

If you don?t have Fuel TV, Dana White promises you will soon

If you don?t have Fuel TV, Dana White promises you will soon

CHICAGO -- Fuel TV, a station that's part of the Fox Family of networks, will soon turn into a UFC fan's paradise. According to UFC president Dana White, it will be a must have for any MMA fan. It will air live fights, MMA news, and pre-fight and post-fight coverage.

"Basically, you cannot be a UFC fan and not have Fuel. We're going to have so many live fights and content that MMA fans are going to want," White said at Wednesday's UFC on Fox 2 press conference.

It's fantastic ... if Fuel is part of your cable or satellite package. As soon as the UFC's deal with Fox was announced, I checked my cable guide, and found out that Comcast does not offer Fuel. According to people's complaints on Twitter and Facebook, I was not alone.

White says that will change soon.

"I think that was part of Fox's strategy in signing the UFC. They've gone up 11 percent since we signed the deal with Fox, and they're in 38 million homes."

While White is confident that more cable and satellite providers will add Fuel, it won't hurt for fans to call and politely ask for it.

"I think it's already happening. The announcements that we made have people [expletive] at their cable companies since we made the announcement."
