Fighter injured in car accident on way to his bout

Din Thomas' luck ran out before he even got to his fight on Friday night. The UFC veteran was scheduled to fight in the main event in a Florida promotion, and was injured in a car accident on the way to the bout. Howard Davis Jr., both the fight's promoter and Thomas' boxing coach at American Top Team, gave an update on Thomas' condition.

"I just got some information from one of his trainers, and he stated that Din is a little banged up," Davis said. "His ribs might be broken, his arm hurts and his head is a little banged up. (But) they said that he should be OK."

The sad part of this is Thomas was trying for a comeback after not fighting since January of 2010. He has nine fights in the UFC and was on the fourth season of "The Ultimate Fighter," and has wins over Clay Guida and Jeremy Stephens. Thankfully, his injuries are not serious, just poorly-timed.

Thanks to MMA Fighting.

What you need to know from this week on ?The Ultimate Fighter?

What you need to know from this week on ?The Ultimate Fighter?Welcome to week four of "The Ultimate Fighter." Who wins the two fights? Will Jason "Mayhem" Miller figure out who the spy is on his team? Will Team Bisping finally get a win? Read on for spoilers and the show recap.

Secret agent man of the week: John Dodson of Team Miller clued Team Bisping in that Stephen Bass is going to be in the next bout. Bisping then made Bass the focus of practice. Bisping even gave Bass a black eye. How sweet.

Fight no. 1 announcement of the week -- Denis Bermudez (Miller) vs. Stephen Bass (Bisping): That was just as Dodson told Bisping, who didn't even show up. His fighters said that they didn't care about it so many times that it was pretty clear that they cared.

Since this is a two-fight episode, we jumped directly into the bouts.

Fight no. 1 of the week -- Bermudez vs. Bass:

Round 1: Bermudez started with a hard-fought takedown, followed by unrelenting ground and pound. As Bipsing yelled, "Get up!" Bass had no response. In the final minute, Bermudez took Bass' back and flattened him out. Bermudez continued to land punch after punch while Miller yelled, "He's breaking."

Round 2: Bermudez started aggressively, taking Bass down again and raining down punches. Bass had one break, when he briefly caught Bermudez's leg for a heel lock, but Bermudez got out to take him down and beat him up again. Finally, after Bermudez stretched Bass out and landed even more punches, the fight was stopped.

Afterwards, Bisping pointed out that his fighters have all lost for not listening to him or following the gameplan.

Fight announcement No. 2 of the week -- Dustin Pague (Team Miller) vs. Louis Gaudinot (Team Bisping): Once Dustin walked to the center, he pulled out a green wig to let Gaudinot know that he was in the next fight.

Finally, Miller has figured out that Bisping has a mole. He doesn't know who the mole is, and doesn't really care.

Uprising of the week: Bass said to Bisping that he went too hard in his practice, and that was a problem in his fight. Bisping blew up at the suggestion that the loss of his own fighter was in any way his fault.

Before their fight, Gaudinot said that the real green hair is going to win. He does realize that his green hair is not actually green, right? That's not a hair color found in nature.

Fight No. 2 of the week -- Pague vs. Gaudinot:

Round 1: The fight started with a ton of activity, as Pague used knees and a takedown, and Gaudinot  used kicks. Pague was effective in the clinch, and Gaudinot threw a spinning kick that would have decapitated Pague if it would have landed. It didn't. In the final minute, Pague defended Gaudinot's takedown attempt, drove him into the fence and landed several punches.

Round 2: Pague knocked Gaudinot down in the first minute, then followed him to the ground. Gaudinot worked back to his feet, but Pague made him pay for it by knocking him down and beating him up again. As blood poured from Gaudinot's face, Pague sunk in a tight rear naked choke and Gaudinot tapped.

Two fights, and two wins for Team Miller. That makes it 4-0 this season, and no one is happier about it than Miller.

Lightweight champ Edgar survives first-round beatdown, scores KO victory

Lightweight champ Edgar survives first-round beatdown, scores KO victoryHOUSTON - Call Frank Edgar small all you want, but the UFC's lightweight champion has more fight in him than pretty much anyone in the sport.

The diminutive Edgar was on shaky legs throughout much of the first round at the Toyota center, but bounced back in the next two rounds and scored a fourth-round TKO finish of Gray Maynard to retain his title in an epic close to the trilogy between the two fighters at UFC 136 in front 16,236 at the Toyota Center.

"That last time we fought, he hurt me in the first round. Maybe I just wanted to make it exciting," Edgar told UFC analyst Joe Rogan.

The first round tonight felt like a replay of their fight back at UFC 125 on Jan. 1.

Edgar got drilled by two huge uppercuts, his legs were wobbly for more than two and a half minutes and he was almost defenseless over the final 60 seconds of the round. Edgar made it to the stool, but his left eye was a mess and nose was bloodied badly.

"After the first round, I needed to listen to my corner and I did. Almost like a robot," said Edgar. During the postfight press conference, the champ said his head movement was awful in the opening round.

Maynard, trying to pace himself, took his foot off the gas pedal over the next two rounds. He allowed Edgar to regain his legs and get into a good rhythm with his striking. Maynard was walking through some solid shots by Edgar, but eventually they'd take their toll.

After Edgar failed on a takedown attempt in the fourth, Maynard left his head hanging and Edgar drilled him with a short right. Maynard was rocked and backed up. Edgar charged forward with right hook after right hook. Another bomb he landed sent Maynard into the cage and his hands dropped. That's when another hook landed on the button and down went Maynard.

"I took my chances in the final round after my right hand had him stumbling backwards. Right after the transition I was on him and closed the gap. I gave it as much intensity as I could give it," said Edgar.

Edgar jumped on top and Maynard went limp after a third left to the head. Referee Josh Rosenthal stopped it at the 3:54 mark. Maynard sat up seconds later and had no idea where he was or what just happened.

Edgar (14-1-1, 9-1-1 UFC) waited nine months to put the questions to rest. He and Maynard fought to a draw back in January. The first round that night was even worse for Edgar. In this one, he was outlanded 33-11 in the first stanza and looked like he was ready to go at any moment on at least three occasions. The fact that he survived the onslaught from the much bigger Maynard, had UFC president Dana White bringing up "Rocky" comparisons in the postfight.

Edgar is still one of the smallest fighters in the division. His non-fight night weight is barely above 160 pounds. Maynard was close to 175 on fight night.

Maynard admitted that he tired badly in that fight after trying to pour it on. That had to be in the back of his mind Saturday night as he failed to go for the kill in the second and third rounds. This was the first loss of Maynard's career (10-1-1).

There may bea  day when Edgar decides he doesn't want to lock horns with these giants, but for now, who's going to tell him that he belongs at a lower weight? He's got the hardware. That should silence all the chatter.
